Angolan companies Etu Energias, Poliedro Energy, and Kotoil mobilized a joint humanitarian, healthcare, and educational support operation in response to the floods that affected Benguela Province. The emergency initiative took place between April 22 and 24, 2026.

The initiative was part of the companies’ corporate social responsibility commitment and was designed to complement the efforts of the Provincial Government of Benguela, in close coordination with local authorities and healthcare entities.

Humanitarian Support for Affected Families

As part of this initiative, a 40-foot container carrying essential goods — including rice, mineral water, cooking oil, temporary shelter tents, mattresses, and mosquito nets — was delivered to the Logistics Center of the Provincial Government of Benguela for distribution to populations affected by the floods. The delivery was carried out under the guidance of the Social Affairs Office of the Deputy Governor for Social Affairs of the Provincial Government of Benguela.

As part of the reinforcement of the public health response launched following the floods, a multidisciplinary team from Luanda travelled to Benguela Province to support local health authorities. The mission included representatives from Etu Energias, Poliedro Energy, Kotoil, and partner company SGTDM, including doctors, nurses, and public health technicians, and was coordinated in collaboration with the Provincial Health Office and the Municipal Health Departments of Benguela.

The mission focused on three priority areas:

  • Malaria prevention and control, including rapid testing and distribution of preventive medication for pregnant women;
  • Cholera prevention through hygiene campaigns and the distribution of disinfectants;
  • Tetanus vaccination, with an initial supply of approximately 500 doses intended for pregnant women and vulnerable groups.

Support for the Resumption of School Activities

As part of the support initiatives for affected communities, various school supplies were also distributed, including primary education textbooks, backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and other learning materials, with the aim of facilitating the return to school for students impacted by the floods.

The heavy rains compromised many families’ access to the resources needed to continue their children’s education, at a time when several schools remained temporarily closed due to mud accumulation and difficulties accessing roads.

The initiative therefore sought to contribute to the gradual resumption of school activities and to minimize the impact of the floods on the learning process of affected children.

Coordinated Response and Social Commitment

The initiative was positively received by provincial authorities and considered a relevant contribution to strengthening the ongoing humanitarian response, carried out in coordination with international organizations, local churches, and community brigades.

Etu Energias, Poliedro Energy, and Kotoil reaffirm their commitment to Angola’s social development and to promoting coordinated initiatives in support of communities affected by emergency situations.
