Edson R. dos Santos, Chairman of Etu Energias, was one of the leaders praised not only for his career achievements, but also for the fact that he is contributing to a more sustainable future with his innovative and transformative spirit.
Born in Luanda – Angola Edson started his career with ExxonMobil in Houston, Texas in 1999 as a Reservoir Engineer until 2015. He had various international assignments in Texas, Louisiana, Norway and Angola.
Between 2006 and 2015 he assumed various leadership positions and joined Sonangol’s Board of Directors between 2016 and 2017 as Chief Operating Officer responsible for - Upstream (E&P, SNL Internacional, HSE), Midstream (Refining, Shipping, Luxervisa), ALNG and Downstream (Sonagás, Logistics and Distribution).
In 2020 he became SOMOIL’s CEO and turned the company around operationally and financially. In 2021 he was confirmed as Chairman, changing the vision from an Oil & Gas company to now becoming the premier integrated energy company – Symbol of a Global Angola.
In 2022, the company achieved its best result ever and received the award for best local company of the year. He successfully led the rebranding that allowed the company to change its identity from SOMOIL to Etu Energias, meaning “We” in Bantu.
A committed and highly focused leader, he was honoured with the "Executive of the Year" award at the "Angola Oil & Gas" awards gala in 2022. The recognition went beyond borders and he received the Special Leadership Commendation Award (in New York) in 2023.
Etu Energias, under the leadership of Edson R. Dos Santos, was also awarded the following prizes: Best local company of the year by AOG 2023; Honourable mention by the TED fair and Platinum honourable mention at Filda 2023.
